How to Fit an Electrolux Vacuum Drive Belt

The drive belt on your vacuum cleaner plays an important role, as without a fully working drive belt the brushroll will not operate properly.

If the drive belt in your Electrolux vacuum cleaner has either perished or damaged, don’t fret it’s fairly simple to replace. A broken belt means the motor will continuously run without the brush roll turning.

With our help we can not only supply the parts required but we’ll even show you how to place it. This simple step by step guide will help you through removing the faulty or damaged drive belt and replace it with a new one.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

  What You Will Need:

  Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Step 2 - Removing Vacuum Top Cover

Fitting the belts themselves is a doddle, on this particular model shown in this video we need to start off by detaching the top cover by removing the screws holding it in place.

Step 3 - Take Old Belt Off

Now that we have the old cover off, we can move onto removing the belt itself. If yours has been shredded or damaged it will be a lot easier to pull away, but generally they’re not difficult to remove.

All that we need to do is lift out the brush roll and pull the belt away from the motor spindle.

Step 4 - Refitting New Drive Belt

You may have noticed the new belt is considerably smaller-looking than the old one, this is just because the old one has stretched over time, it won't be a problem so don’t worry.

To fit the new belt, first of all we need to feed it over the motor spindle, and then around the brush roll. Then pull the other end of the brush roll into the machine and pull it tight back into place. To ensure the belt is in the correct position rotate the brush roll a couple of turns to centre the belt.

There you have it! A new belt fitted to your vacuum cleaner, saving you from having to buy a new vacuum cleaner.
