How do I test existing heater to see if it is the problem?

My Candy 1012 integrated dishwasher (same innards as the one shown here) beeps 30 times and then shows three lights lit. Heater problems seem to be the most likely, but how can I test the existing heater to see if that really is the issue before spending £90 on a replacement?

  • Many thanks Chris for the info. I finally got around to metering out the heating element. I get OL on my meter - which presumably means overload or out of range, so I guess it's a gonner. Now I need to decide whether to spend the £90 on a new heater or put that towards a new dishwasher... By allwashedup - Twickenham - 25 January 2014

If you use a multimeter to check it the elements resistance should be between 25 and 30 ohms and if over this by more than a few ohms it will need replacing.
