Hi Kleinerfunke - you got me, I must've been having an off day with my original answer. To meter test, you'll need a multimeter. First you'll need to remove the element from the dishwasher. Multimeters come with two meter probes; touch these against the element contact points. Set the multimeter to check the voltage first. If there's a positive reading, the element is fine, and it could be that the thermostat is the problem. If there's a zero voltage reading, you'll need to replace the element.
