How would you test a spark generator voltage using a voltmeter?

I recently purchased this item from e spares. The new item arrived promptly but did not rectify the no spark issue I had with my cooker. I would like to know how to test the new and old generators to see their output voltages. Is it just a question of connecting a voltmeter (set to doc) to the + and - connectors? Thanks.

If the new generator has the same problem as the original then it is unlikely to be faulty. A multimeter can be damaged by the high voltage from the output and would not react quick enough to read correctly. Additionally manufacturers do not expect this to be measured so do not give voltages to confirm if faulty or not. Check the spark electrodes and replace if suspect or damaged.
