how quickly should a refridgerator respond to the thermostat being lowered

refers to a beko larder fridge with auto defrost which defrosted but did not start up again until disconnected from mains then ok apart from response to t?stat changes

    Next time this occurs check if the compressor is hot and a quiet click can be heard twice a minute. If this is the case the compressor could be trying to start and cutting off due to either a faulty relay Stock Number: ES1247610 no longer available or the compressor. If no clicks suspect the thermostat.
