We think the purpose of this chamber is to prevent water from syphoning when the pump stops if the outlet hose is positioned lower than the water level in the drum. To prevent this there may be a small air hole that allows air to enter and break the syphon. It is possible this may cause leaking if there is a build up of detergent or mould in this part.
