British Gas have said it is not a legal requirement to fit a cooker chain. why would the gas safety engineer say it is?

Although this may not be a legal requirement for this to be fitted it is 'Advisory' where a Gas Safe engineer is obliged to comment on any 'potentially hazardous' situation bringing it to the owners attention. Most gas cookers are supplied with one and sometimes two chains to prevent damage to the hose or pipework in the event the cooker was to move excessively.
