the wheels point outwards is this caused by the wheel fixing rather than the wheel itself. I do not want to buy parts that are not needed - would you prefer a photo of the problem

Your problem is likely to be due to wear if the wheels reverse direction when pulled. It is not possible to guarantee what parts are worn but a case of examining carefully and looking for signs of wear/looseness.
