To test this switch for a fault is it a case of setting the multimeter to lowest Ohm setting and testing across both terminals?. At present it is showing open circuit.

Dishwasher stopped mid cycle but no fault code. After checking flow through heater that was ok but the thermal switch is showing open circuit so i am hoping this is the fault.

A thermostat should normally read the same as connecting both meter probes together until the correct temperature has been reached. This suggests your thermostat has failed and would explain no heating.
