Left hand ring will light when knob pressed in but goes out as knob is released. Do I need a thermocouple and can any diy person fit this or does it require an engineer

    It is likely to be the thermocouple, there are different types depending on your models details however changing or repairing anything connected to the gas is dangerous and should be undertaken by a trained professional.
