the start pause switch occasionally works but most of time does not what part needs replaced,

Because the switch is 'monitored' by a computer timer if you just dab the button it may miss the press. Try just pressing gently for a couple of seconds and the machine should start every time. If it does not you may need to replace the control board Stock Number: ES1672878
