The safety cap screw top won't screw into the body and lock. It feels OK at first but spews out steam when the water heats up. Do I need a complete set, or an O ring/washer or? I am not a plumber!

I have had the cylinder steam cleaner for 5 years and have never had a problem with it. Operating on it with a screw driver and hammer makes me panic, so please help! It is not heavily used, just weekly for the kitchen floor and bathroom.
