drum drain hose with ball ????

have problem with drum making a noise and sometimes jamming removed hose to have a feel inside of drum and found a ball in this hose , is it there to keep the shape or is it something that should not be there

    The ball is sometimes referred to as a eco ball. It is designed to float as the machine fills and shut off the sump hose preventing detergent being washed into the hose and wasted as the machine fills. replace the hose if the ball sticks after cleaning the ball and hose.
