is this product used to replace any part of the cooker hood filter ES1029647 for Hygena APP2420 or do i need to replace the whole thing? I can't see that anything is replaceable!

No, ES1029647 is a part in it's own right. These universal filters are replacements for cooker hood filters which use a thin carbon filter that sits on top of a grease filter.
