Where does this spring go please?

I have ordered from you a new pedal plunger and this spring for my DC18 vacuum. The spring is missing from my vacuum and the diagram on your website doesn't show exactly where it goes. Can you help on this at all please?

Answer this Question (1 Answer)

  • I actually answered my own question in my review but here it is again: This spring goes around the front end of the "Pedal Plunger" which is the clear plastic part in the pedal mechanism. It can easily become lost when the pedal plunger breaks. The spring is passed through the gap in the middle of the hinged end of the plunger and its ends locate in small grooves in the plunger and the casing it fits on. Make sure you get it on the right way round! It is very important to the proper operation of the pedal. Another tip: The pedal parts seem to break because of stickyness in the mechanism that switches the suction from front to rear wand. Take this apart and clean its rubbing surfaces while you have the machine apart. By MalcolmW - Kent, UK - 20 October 2011
