The 3 rubber prongs on the in side of the brush bar has worn away if I replace it will the brush turn again?

By Small - - 16 September 2013
  • If the brush motor is still running then it is the moulded threads but if the brush motor is not running then it is most likely the filters need changing. By Nigel - Wales - 06 October 2019
  • The molded "threads" on the inner side of the end cap that retains the brush bar are easily damaged (usually by trying to remove it without turning it 90 degrees). This allows endways movement of the bar. This extra clearance causes the drive to slip and the drive prongs wear away the corresponding brush bar "prongs" you mention. A new bar will therefore quickly wear the same way without a new end cap. By Keith - Wiltshire - 20 November 2013

We are sorry but do not have any dimensions for this product. It is likely the bristles will wear and if used a lot we would suggest replacing it.

Developed a strong vibration from the brush bar area. Found that the housing on the left side end cap (looking from the back of hoover) which fits into the brush bar had fractured. Replaced the end cap and cleaned out the end of the brush bar, albeit the end was rather rough I suspect due to the previously mentioned damaged. Whilst the end cap did turn when fitted onto the brush bar it certainly did not swing freely as shown on the Dyson replacement video. After hoovering half a room the vibration returned and examination revealed that the housing on the end cap had sheared again. Before I purchase a new brush bar and another end cap am I on the right lines or is there some other issue I am not picking up on? Grateful for any advise you can give me

It sounds like the brush spindle may be damaged and if this has resulted in the moulding that located the bearing becoming worn and loose if this is not repaired as well the problem is likely to return. Examine and replace any worn damaged or suspect parts to prevent the chance of future failure.

If the brush bar is especially worn or if there's anything wrapped round out (such as hair or carpet fibres) then it can cause problems and noise, so take a look. If your vacuum is also producing a burning smell during use then it could be a problem with the motor - check out our video on how to replace it.
