I have fitted the timer correctly as I did last time. The gas comes on now but it doesn't change in intensity of heat from 1 through to 9. It stays at the same?

If the gas is switched of by the timer then this is working correctly. The gas will only come up to full flame when the thermocouple has identified the flame is burning correctly so the current fault is likely to be the thermocouple or a poor flame on the thermocouple.
The main oven will not come on if the clock isn't working. I've been reading on the internet many people have the same problem - the clock isn't working, therefore the oven will not work. I have read it could be the thermal fuse at the back of the cooker but I can't seem to purchase one. The rest of the cooker is working fine - small oven/grill and hobs. Do you think I need a new clock? It's a lot of money if this isn't the problem.
