I have removed the brush and other pieces. The drive is locked and will not turn by hand. How can I open the side to check the drive. Do I remove the central vacuum shaft

to access the drive in the motorhead turn upside down and remove the screws, there is a clip holding the upper housing so be careful when prising the 2 sections apart use an old credit card to pop the clip then lift the housing off and the drive is underneath.
I would like to know the reason that my Motor head on this vacuum stops running, this is an intermittent fault and starts again after a brief pause or i rotate the brush head by using my fingers, i regularly check the head to see if it has a tangle but even after cleaning it still stops

You will need to check the drive assembly inside the motorhead because if that is failing it will need to be replaced.
With brush removed I cannot rotate the drive by hand.

Locate the end cap on the side of the motorhead and will have a lock/unlock symbol that is turned with a coin to release, you can then remove the brush roll to check it.
