I have a HVR200-22 Henry Hoover, bought in 2007. It works when switched on, but quickly makes a burning smell, and your can hear the tone winding down very slowly. I've only dared run it for about 30 seconds. My question is, will simply ordering new carbon brushes fire it back to life, or is the motor ruined and I need a complete replacement? Also, if I get a new motor is it a simple drop in replacement, or do I need to do any soildering / junction connector installation inside? I'm happy to get a new motor if needed, but I like to be as environmentally friendly as possible, and keep these things running till they're truly finished :-) I really appreciate your advice - Many thanks :-)

Re Ken Feaver's question. The suppressor will not be causing the problem and if the appliance is getting hot it is designed to cut out before it 'cooks the motor' and does permanent damage. Start by replacing the filters and ensure that the air flow through the cleaner (needed for cooling as well as cleaning) is not to restricted when cleaning deep pile carpets by allowing some air to bypass the cleaning head if a 'valve' is fitted in the hose/handle.

  • I have a Henry HVR200 it works for a while and then cuts out it has a suppressor and thermal cut out fitted I suspect the suppressor or and the cut out is at fault can i replace the items or can if just take them out of the machine By Ken Feaver - Doddinghurst Brentwood Essex - 29 July 2015
  • Many thanks for the response. I'm being slow to look in to this, but will try and take apart Henry soon, and then come back here once I've had a chance! Cheers :-) By Anonymous - - 14 October 2014

I suspect the problem is not just down to worn brushes but you need to dismantle and examine before making a decision based on the condition of the brushes. To access and replace the motor see our video: How to replace a vacuum motor – Numatic http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/4/1564/how-to-replace-a-vacuum-motor-%E2%80%93-numatic

It sounds like the motor on your cleaner requires replacement.

Answer this question

I bought your compatible motor and it came with black wires already attached to the motor, whilst the original one had white wires attached to the motor by spade connectors. where can I attach the black wires to? And what should I do with the white wires? To note that I followed the video and the white wires were attached to the top of the hoover on one side and the motor with spade connector on the other side.

You can cut off the original connectors strip them back and connect them to the wires using ES1687356. Alternatively return (subject to our returns policy) and order the original motor.

Henry has gone dead on me after we moved house and it sat in a lock-up garage over the winter. My mistake. I've checked the plug fuse is ok. Beyond that I don't know what to do. Should I take a chance and buy a motor? I don't want to throw it out if I can avoid it.
