You would need to test the thermal cut out with a multimeter to determine if it has failed.

Answer this question

Top oven was left on melting the door seal. The grill still works but the oven isn't heating up. Everything is fine with the main oven. Could it be that the thermal cut out needs replaced Any advice would be appreciated.

This thermal cut out is a 'link' that breaks if excess heat builds up and is likely to have gone open circuit. check with a meter for continuity and replace if it is 'open circuit'.

The cut out or the selector switch is likely to be faulty. Check when you have sorted out this fault that the main oven thermostat cuts out as if it has welded the contacts it may cause it to overheat and trip the cut out again.
