It is likely to be the switch but you will need to examine both before deciding what part is required.

If the machine only runs when the button is pressed suspect the door lock Stock Number: ES552148 as this switch is not supposed to latch and the problem is likely to be the lock.
I have purchased a replacement start switch, but the video does not relate to my dryer. Please explain how to replace switch.

We are sorry but this is the closest video we have to your repair. To release the switch carefully prise off the button using a couple of small screwdrivers. Then use need nose pliers to press in the 'arrow heads' on the switch until it can pass back through he mounting hole.
just replaced the start switch but problem is the same as before, the start switch only functions if the switch is held in but the machine functions perfectly until you release the start switch.

Depending on your 'version' this problem is likely to be the relay PCB Stock Number: ES865631 behind the top panel or the door lock Stock Number: ES552148 if no relay is fitted (later models).
My old start switch, when I push it in power comes on but when I let go power goes off. I've replaced the switch but the same happens so espares have sent me another switch which does exactly the same. The switches are not clicking and just springing straight back out. Am I doing something wrong or is it possible that the 2 switches I've been sent are faulty?

These switches contact momentarily and then release. This depending on model activates either a relay, door lock or control board that starts the machine.
I have watched the video previously posted as an answer and i know how to remove fascia, etc. How do you remove the start switch itself??

Hi again nickynoo, the switch should be able to be pulled away from the PCB, or whatever it's connected to; you'll probably need to use a bit of force, but it should just be a case of unclipping the old switch and inserting the new one.
Some more detail on the steps to remove fascia and switch would be very useful

Hi BMul, this video should help you out: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7/1298/how-to-replace-washing-machine-controls-hotpo.html It's a washing machine featured in the video, but the process for your dryer will be very similar.

Hi there, you'll need to remove your dryer's fascia to replace this switch. Check out this video for help: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7/1298/how-to-replace-washing-machine-controls-hotpo.html It's a washing machine featured in the video, but the process for your dryer will be very similar.
My Proline TDC6A tumble dryer runs for about 5 minutes then stops. After about 10 minutes it can be restarted. I have been told this is due to a faulty start relay. Everything appears to be operating correctly otherwise; it is heating, filters and condenser are clear, drum and bearing are fine - it just keeps stopping. Is this the part I need? If not, what is your advice, please. Thanks.

If you have received technical support and confirmed this is the part you need, then this should be the correct part. This is the start switch behind the front fascia panel.
Will this part fit my appliance?
