Would failure of the suppressor capacitor cause my Hetty not to start? My capacitor ends with 1140 rather than 1104 as printed on the advertised spare. How do I check if it is ok - my simple multimeter does not have a capacitor-check function

If the suppressor goes short it will cause the fuse to blow as it is across the supply. If it goes open circuit it would not be noticed in the operation of the appliance other than the radiated interference from the motor would be significantly higher and would be likely to cause problems to radio television and even mobile phone reception in the nearby area.

  • Yes! It could well prevent the motor from running. Same thing happened on my Henry - removed the suppressor and she fired up like a good'un! By Anonymous - - 24 October 2014

No, this is to prevent interference from the motor.
