  • In my case, and usually I believe usually so: The 2 stats are in series (power goes through one then the other), and both cut heat but serve 2 purposes: 1, the standard (silver?) one cuts heat to maintain the required temperature, 2. The overheat (black?) one is an emergency (one shot) cut out if normal temperature control fails and the appliance gets dangerously hot, for example the if fan stops. If either fails there will be no heat, but I'm still trying to work out how hi/lo temperature is effected. It's normally by a third wire to the middle of the element (reducing the amount of active elements) but I only saw 2 wires on my cursory look at the element pack, suggesting a reduction in voltage is used. Hi Anon, It's really hard to properly diagnose a machine without physically seeing it. As a general rule of thumb - if the tumble dryer isn't heating up, but the motor is running and everything else appears to be working as it should - it's generally the thermostat or the element that needs to be replaced.
